(Un)Comfortably (D)Numb

привет, my friend!

Warning: not a happy post!

There is a Pink Floyd song called Comfortably Numb from The Wall album, which talks about the ceasing sensation of pain in the body.

Sometimes I feel numb in Moscow, since I cannot understand people around me and have to withstand long periods of silence. It is also hard to go into a store and not be able to ask for things. Differently from other latin languages, it is impossible to pick up Russian words here and there. More dreadful, however, is the fear of someone approaching me and me not being able to answer (apart from usual sentence: "Ya ni govoriu pa'russki", which means "I don't understand Russian"). And, even though I can read cyrillic, I cannot understand the meaning of the words.

Paraphrasing Pink Floyd, I feel uncomfortably dumb. There is pain and I hate such a feeling of uselessness!

I will start taking Russian classes soon, and hope to overcome the language barrier.

Btw, you can click here for the lyrics of the original song.
